It was a strange and awesome thing to make Kate’s senior pictures.
Kate was one of my original subjects. Back in 2007 when I got my very first digital SLR and began taking classes in digital photography, fellow photographer Greg Inda and I went on a road trip where we hung out with miniature Kate, who walked us around the garden, showing us interesting rocks. Later that same year, she became the star of one my favorite early digital photographs when she famously took hold of the two dogs’ leashes and skipped down the street, piping “Two dogs! Two dogs! I’ve got! Two! Dogs!”
That was back then.
Now Kate’s all grown up, reads complex books, plays the oboe, and can beat us at board games. The college acceptance letters are streaming in. It seems like only five years have passed, when it’s been more than three times that length.
We had a fun photoshoot where we played with lots of different looks and a couple different backgrounds. We went outside and took some shots in a beautiful garden, and one of those ended up being Kate’s favorite, with bright daylight bouncing all over the place. She’s a natural.
Here are a few partial edits that show some of the variety of shots we made.
Kate did an awesome job in our session, patiently and courageously trying new looks and lights as we shot through 450 digital frames. With that patience and courage, she’ll go far. It was an honor to make Kate’s senior pictures!
